POLICE officers in the Northern Division have been told to know their area of operation in order to provide better services.
Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Ioane Naivalurua gave this reminder to officers up north last week.
He told them that as police officers they needed to familiarise themselves to the areas and the people they served.
He was responding to a complaint from an officer regarding the ineffectiveness of the domestic violence restraining orders (DVRO) aimed at keeping conflicting parties away from each other.
The officer said the DVRO, when granted by the court, was ineffective in that the offender, particularly in domestic violence cases, was usually in contact with the victim.
Brig-Gen Naivalurua said this was where officers needed to know and understand the people in the various areas they served.
