FIJI squash number one Justin Ho will use the P Meghji-sponsored Lautoka business house league as a build-up to next year's Oceania Championship.
Ho, who has held the number one tag for the past three years, said the business house league would provide him with ample competition.
He said the interest in the sport was high in Lautoka.
"It is good to see squash getting lively again especially with the Oceania Championship coming up next year," Ho said.
"This business house league is a test for all the players who are vying for the national team. For the new and upcoming players, the competition will serve as a learning experience.
"I would like to thank P Meghji for sponsoring the competition and also the business houses for supporting the teams. There are many people behind the scenes who have made this event possible."
The teams that will be participating in the competition include Bargain Box, PK Electrical/All Engineering, TSA/Parmar, P Meghji, Roadworks, Williams and Gosling, Apco Coating, Automart, Northern Club and Pricewaterhouse Coopers.
Tournament controller Eremasi Matanatabu said the teams had been divided into two pools.
He said many junior players had registered for the six-week event.
"There will be two pools and the matches will be played on Tuesdays and Thursdays," Matanatabu said.
"There will be four weeks of pool competition before the semi-finals and final. Squash is certainly flourishing in Lautoka and we are proud to have Fiji's number one hailing from the Sugar City.
"We also have a young group of players who are coming up as we focus on our preparations for the 2015 Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea."
The Lautoka business house squash league will start at the Northern Club on Thursday.
