AN improvement notice has been issued to Ratu Emeri Catholic School for much-needed renovations to its teachers quarters.
National Occupational Health and Safety and Workers Compensation Service director Isimeli Tuivaga confirmed the notice was issued because of the deteriorating condition of the teachers' quarters at the primary school.
"We issue this improvement notices depending on a reasonable time limit for institutions to rectify the defects before we re-assess the situation for further action," said Mr Tuivaga.
"In the case of Ratu Emeri Catholic School, we have given them a one-month notice to rectify the conditions of the teachers' quarters which we will review on the 19th of December this year," he said.
School head Tomasi Kunau said the quarters were old and some had been in existence since the inception of the school in 1973.
"Teachers in the school have gone through a lot and there is a need to renovate the quarters as some of our teachers have been really affected, especially during bad weather," he said.
