THE Lami women's soccer side is aiming to reach the final of the Inter-District Championships despite that fact that it will be their first ever tournament appearance.

The Lami Women's Soccer Association was formed last year and the only competition they featured in is the women's southern zone league.

Association president Ana Seru said the team had mixed results in the league competition but was confident of doing well in a tournament.

"We have been playing the league competition and teams like Navua, Rewa and Suva used to thrash us," Seru said.

"But now we are drawing our games against these same teams," she said.

"Our players have gained confidence with every game they have played since when we first started."

She said the team was a mix of youth and experience and some players were well known in other sports but keen to try their hand at soccer.

"We have volleyball player Talica Rawaru and basketball player Anaseini Cokanasiga, our youngest players Elesi Siga of DAV Girls College and Irinieta McKinley or Suva Christian School are only 15 years old.

"Our oldest player is Vika Naisoqo who is 28-years old and just like our team, she will be playing in her first tournament.

"It was not difficult finding players and now we have enough players to form a team and play."
