Maroons have work cut out

THE Lautoka rugby team has a lot of work to do ahead of the final Farebrother-Sullivan Trophy challenge after going down to a Nadroga selection side 23-5 at Churchill Park in Lautoka on Friday.

The friendly match was part of the 2012 Divisional Crime Prevention Community Carnival sports triple header.

The Stallions led 8-5 at halftime.

Fitness proved to be the downfall for the Maroons in the second spell with the visitors romping to a well deserved win.

Former Lautoka coach Isireli Bulicokocoko said the sugar city side was outmuscled in all facets of the game.

He said Lautoka needed a lot of improvement.

“Nadroga has a lot of depth,” Bulicokocoko said.

“It seems the Lautoka side is still trying to build their combination. They only have two weeks left for their challenge. There is plenty of work to be done.

“They need to improve their set pieces, phase play and defence. There has to be more communication between the players. Against Nadroga they started slow and then were playing catch-up rugby at the end.”

Naitasiri is the next challenger for the Farebrother Sullivan Trophy.
