THE third National Super Premier and Premier Ranking snooker tournament is expected to be a thriller as top contenders will be eyeing to take the lead before the final tournament in November.

Suman Lal and Pritesh Khatri, who won the first two national ranking tournaments, are among the favourites to clinch the title in Suva this weekend.

However, they will face a tough challenge from Pranil Singh, who is the top favourite after finishing second in the last ranking tournament in Lautoka.

Singh of Nausori Club, who won the first-ever Golden Cue Snooker tournament earlier this month, is in form following a consistent performance lately.

Billiards and Snooker Association of Fiji secretary Doctor Praveen Maharaj said they were anticipating exciting encounters at the two-day event, starting today.

He said former national rep Mahendra Deo of Nadi was also one of the favourites in the tournament, which will be used to determine the top three snooker players in the country.

"We are expecting 40 players from all over the country in this tournament. This is an important tournament for those in contention for the top three rankings and it will be exciting to see who wins here," Maharaj said.

Deepak Bala finished on top after recording good wins in the opening two national rankings tournament last year.

The tournament will be held at the Fiji Club, Defence Club and Merchants Club.
