TEN new businesses have opened in Rakiraki Town within a space of three months this year boosting the town's economy.
According to a review of the Rakiraki Town Council's activities between June to August, the 10 new businesses brought the number of firms operating in the town to 153.
Special administrator Seini Raiko said the total number of business licences issued so far were 142.
Ms Raiko revealed that the 10 new businesses were a result of the town's resolve to have a floodgate constructed to solve its flooding problem.
"The flood mitigation had increased investment in the town," said Ms Raiko.
In addition to this new economic activity, Ms Raiko highlighted its plans to establish a tax free zone at the town.
