WOMEN of Qauia settlement in Lami have learnt to value themselves because of the role they play in the family.
This was after they attended a workshop on women empowerment.
Safaira Tagivuni, the director of DORCAS Welfare Society and Grace TRIFAM of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, said women needed to uphold their values and exercise them accordingly.
Mrs Tagivuni, who facilitated the four-day workshop, reminded about 60 women they must come out of their comfort zones and explore other opportunities.
She said it was normal that women saw themselves as housewives and mothers.
“But they don’t realise they can do better than these roles they are confined to,” Mrs Tagivuni said.
She said women had been subjected to humiliation and discrimination in the past when men made all the family decisions. However, she said women should not allow their traditional roles to hinder their development as decision-makers.
She said with their values, these women from Lami could realise the significance of their contribution to society and nation-building.
