DRASA Secondary School in Lautoka has a new $95,000 catering school.

Principal Parnesh Naidu said the project was funded by the Rotary Fiji Schools Project team, led by former Fiji residents, Veena Tilly and her husband Denys.

He said they had successfully completed a new industry standard School of Catering which would be of great benefit to the students. “The project took three weeks to complete,” said Mr Naidu.

“Former Lautoka citizen Munjula and her husband Andrew Watts who run a restaurant in Adelaide collected most of the items and these items were donated by their industry contacts. Munjula encouraged the students to seek a career in the hospitality industry after the setting up of the catering centre.”

Mr Naidu said Andrew and Munjula worked tirelessly throughout the year.

“They organised and packed a 40ft shipping container with the help of Denys Tilly and Lawrence Mudaliar which was shipped from Adelaide to Fiji.

“The furnishings that came in the container for the set-up of the Drasa Charmer included an industrial oven, three fridges, stainless steel benches, worktops and shelves, grill and salamander, deep fryer, bar and liquor storage cabinet, coffee-making equipment and tables and chairs to seat 40.”
