MARRIAGE life is not a honeymoon, it is a crest and a trough like a wave in the ocean, says Police Commissioner Brigadier General Ioane Naivalurua.
He made the comment at the opening of the Police Spousal Counselling program in Labasa yesterday.
Brig-Gen Naivalurua told the officers he had identified 101 issues that needed to be addressed in order to improve the force. These included the family.
"This workshop is a historical one for the Fiji Police Force as it is the first time any real attempt is being made to help find solutions to the growing number of relationship problems faced by officers which has affected our operational effectiveness," he said.
"There is a lack of oneness within our families in the force, our families need to be based on strong ethos and values. Marriage life is about trust and honour between couples in order to foster a happy family."
Brig-Gen Naivalurua reminded the officers that marriage life was not all smooth sailing.
"Marriage life is all about hard work and you have to keep working at it every day.
"Close relationships involve sharing of our innermost selves and the most notable challenge is that of power and economic considerations.
