THIRTY-year-old Hazel Naidu was all smiles after winning the Fiji Bitter Vanua Levu Snooker Championship.
Naidu defeated defending champion Ravin Kumar 3-2 in the final.
"I would like to thank the Labasa Farmers Club and the snooker association in Labasa for allowing me to practise at the club every day during the build-up to these competition," said Naidu.
"I have been playing for two years now and it is hard work to achieve results like this.
"Dethroning the defending champion is a great achievement for me because I had always dreamt of winning this championship."
Former champion Kumar said he was proud of the input from the new players, adding snooker had developed in Labasa.
"It has been a wonderful experience and we are appealing to young talents out there to come to the clubs and play," he said.
Organising committee president Ramesh Chandra said the response from players was overwhelming taking into account that the sport was a minority one.
Meanwhile, bowing out of the championship has not stopped 17-year-old Krishneel Naicker from dreaming of winning the championship one day.
The Labasa Sangam Kuppuswamy Memorial School sixth former lost to Kumar in the semi-finals.
Naicker had won all his pool games before losing to Kumar.
