LOCAL Babasiga boy Gyanendra Prasad was over the moon after winning the Fiji Premium Vanua Levu Golf Championship, beating defending champion Vijay Goundar.

Prasad dethroned Goundar after finishing off with a 159 overall gross ahead of Goundar's 162.

Another local player, Nitesh Prasad had reason to smile after winning the overall net division of the tournament.

Labasa Golf Club secretary Dinesh Goundar hailed the tournament a success. He said the open had boosted the morale of the local players.

He confirmed that they will recommend Prasad to the national golf body to represent Fiji.

"There is talent here in the Northern Division and this is evident in the amount of local boys that took part during the tournament and the fact that they are beating experienced players," Goundar said.
