ON International Day of Peace, September 21, Transparency International (TI) Fiji's chairperson Apisalome Tudreu called for a movement towards sustainable peace through the pursuit of integrity and active campaigning against corruption.
Speaking at the Pan Pacific South East Asia Women's Association (PPSEAWA) celebrations for International Day of Peace, Mr Tudreu said Fiji, like much of the world, had experienced turbulence and upheaval throughout past years.
"The abuse of duty for selfish gain, the diverting of opportunities from rightful beneficiaries, and the lack of prosecution of such activities, has caused frustrations for the citizens of Fiji," he said.
Mr Tudreu said a new mind-set, where citizens actively fought corruption, was needed to build sustainable peace. "In this time of transition for our nation, it is imperative that we truly commit ourselves to peace building, to reconciliation, to recovery and reconstruction as only we can," he said.
Mr Tudreu was invited by PPSEAWA as the chief guest at the annual International Day of Peace celebrations held in Peace Park, Suva.
