PRISON authorities have been ordered by the court to explain why a woman was not produced in court for her trial.
Yesterday, Ema Vakacegu, who faces charges of obtaining money by false pretence and held in remand at the Suva Women's Prison, was supposed to appear in the Suva Magistrates Court.
Magistrate Janaka Bandara vacated the trial after the prison authorities failed to produce Ms Vakacegu in court.
Mr Bandara enquired if a production order was served.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Feroz Khan told the court Ms Vakacegu was present for the hearing in March.
The court heard a production order was issued on March 7 and extended for the accused to appear yesterday.
Mr Bandara ordered that the officer in charge of the women's prison write a report explaining why Ms Vakacegu was not in court yesterday. The case has been adjourned to October 15.
