A WOMAN'S dash for freedom was short-lived when the police dog unit caught up with her.
Emele Suguturaga, who is serving a three-year sentence for burglary and theft, escaped from a working party last Thursday.
She appeared before Suva Magistrate Janaka Bandara yesterday, charged with escaping from lawful custody.
The court heard Suguturaga makes weekly visits to St Giles Hospital for treatment. She told the court that she was on medication.
Mr Bandara enquired how the accused managed to escape and was told she had fled from a work party.
The court heard that Suguturaga was found on Reservoir Rd, which is not far from the women's prison, some 45 minutes after escaping.
Mr Bandara ordered that a psychiatric evaluation be conducted before a charge is put to her.
