THE 29th Fiji Regatta Week has been lauded as a success by organisers of the annual yachting race at the Musket Cove Island Resort and Marina.

Musket Cove Island Resort and Marina general manager Olivia Mavoa said next year's celebrations would be bigger than previous years.

"We'll certainly make it a bigger celebration because it is our 30th year," she said.

"We hope to get the same number, if not more, of yachts back to our marina for the race next year. This year, so many of them have enjoyed themselves and we want to keep that momentum, so next week we start preparations for next year's event."

Ms Mavoa said they hoped to attract more local sailors in next year's competition.

"We had a record number coming in this year with about ten local participants which is actually more than what we usually have.

"There's those who came in from Vuda Marina and those from the Royal Suva Yacht Club."

Ms Mavoa said local yachties would boost the yachting industry in Fiji.

"The industry has a lot of potential to grow especially for those that have a marina. The advantage that we have is that we also have resort facilities, so if local resorts want to also do something similar they can have a look at what we are doing."
