VENTURES ran riot in the Marist Eastgate Memorial Hockey tournament yesterday making a clean sweep at the National Hockey Centre in Laucala.

The men's team defeated Stingers 3-0 to record their fifth consecutive win while the women's team overcame Marist with the same score to mark their emphatic 10-year-in-a-row win.

Coached by former national rep Hector Smith Sr, the teams played with determination to fend off tough the challenge of other teams.

"We were fortunate to have won because we didn't have it all our way. We came through strong pool matches and the competition was quite stiff this year," Smith said.

"It was great participating in this tournament with teams coming from places like Ba and we look forward to defending our titles next year."

Ventures women's team skipper Lucretia Pickering hailed her teammates for the hard work and dedicated the victory to them. "Our plan was to go there and score first to take the pressure off us and we did exactly that," she said.

"It was a good win for us and we hope to maintain our spot because it's not easy being on top."

The under-14 grade competition was won by Stingers, which thrashed Mobilites 8-2.
