Former national rep Hamen Anand is eyeing a return to bodybuilding after a lapse of 11 years.

Anand will feature in the National Bodybuilding Championships which will be held at the Fiji National University Namaka Campus in Nadi this Saturday.

The 45-year-old competed on the national level from 1997 to 2001, having won gold and silver medals in the 75kg category. He represented Fiji during the 2001 Mini South Pacific Games in the Norfolk Islands.

Anand, a fitness Instructor and personal fitness trainer, said he would be competing in the 80kg class this time.

"What motivated me to come back to competitive bodybuilding is my two-year-old son," Anand said.

"I want to leave a benchmark for him to achieve more than what I achieved in the sport so far.

"I will be competing for the first time in the 80kg class as previously I have competed in the 75kg class.

"My goal is to represent Fiji in the next Pacific Games and I consider this as the beginning of a new era for me in the sport of bodybuilding."

Anand is based out of the Presidential Gymnasium at Hotel Kennedy in Nadi.

The main categories include Mr Fiji, Ms Fiji, Open Overall, Mr West, Mr Suva, Best Poser and Most Promising.

The national team to compete in the South Pacific Bodybuilding Championships in the Cook Islands in November will be selected during the event.
