SUVA ensured they finish their National Football League campaign on high and set a good platform for the upcoming Courts Inter District Championship with a resounding 2-1 win over Labasa at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori yesterday.
In the process, the capital city side also finished second in the Fiji Sun/GP Batteries sponsored competition on 42 points to collect the $4000 prize money.
Nadi finished on the third spot with 38 points followed by Lautoka on 33, Rewa on 23 and Nadroga on sixth with 21 points.
Suva's goals were scored by Sanni Issa and Samuela Kautoga in the 17th and 22nd minutes, respectively, before Labasa's Penaia Bale pulled one back in the 32nd minute.
Both teams tried hard to score more goals in the second spell but poor ground condition due to continuous rain in the Eastern division made it hard for the players to do so.
Suva coach Gurjit Singh was ecstatic with the win but indicated areas of concern in the team which he would be working on for the IDC.
Singh said the team would march into camp from today.
"We still have to work on our defence and few areas to get the team ready for the IDC. Discipline will be the key factor for the team and I will be very strict with that."
Meanwhile, Labasa which travelled without their coaches Ivor Evans and Bal Sanju Reddy is hoping to bounce back and retain their IDC title at Ba's Govind Park. Evans and Reddy were tied up with personal commitments.
