ABOUT 50 high school students in the Western Division were told to share with the opposite gender equal roles and responsibilities.
The reminder was given by the Fiji Women's Crisis Centre co-ordinator Shamima Ali at the National Substance Abuse Advisory Council students workshop organised by the Ministry of Education in Lautoka at the weekend.
Ms Ali said throughout the Pacific and mainly in the Melanesian countries women were subordinate to men.
She said nothing had changed regarding the perception of men and women.
"I've been doing this job for the past 20 years and ever since there has been no change and until today you have been taught by your parents that women's place is in the kitchen and looking after children while the men are supposed to play the lead role and be decision makers," she said.
