PRIME Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama has warned that anyone who harboured the five prison escapees or assisted them in any way is also in serious trouble.

Commodore Bainimarama said the authorities were also targeting possible accomplices both inside and outside the prison. "And we are conducting a thorough investigation into allegations that the breakout was assisted by some within the prison system," he said in a statement yesterday.

"If it was, then this is a grave breakdown of prison discipline and we will leave no stone unturned getting to the bottom of it." Commodore Bainimarama also praised the collaboration between police and the military that led to the speedy recapture of four of the five criminals who escaped from Naboro Prison last Monday night.

"I want to pay tribute to the hundreds of men and women who took part in the joint operation between the police, the Republic of Fiji Military Forces and corrections services.

"They deserve the community's thanks for their determination to find these men and bring them to justice.

"The co-operation between the police and the military was exemplary and I want to personally thank everyone involved," said Commodore Bainimarama.
