REBELS won the Raiwai Volleyball Association knockout tournament at the Eagles Court in Raiwaqa yesterday.
The top club in the country defeated Pulse 3-1 to start their 2012/13 volleyball season on a high note.
The side which has players like Jone Salaueneune and Nimilote Lua maintained their dominance from the opening set to dash the hopes of Pulse, which made a gallant comeback in the second set.
Games coordinator Solo Fakauliafa was impressed with the competition level in the day-long tournament, adding it had set a good platform for the upcoming season.
However, he was disappointed with the turnout and hoped more teams would come when the season gets underway proper from next week.
"We had five men's teams and unfortunately no women's teams. Normally we have close to ten teams playing but it's just the start of the season and we hope more teams would join us from next week," Fakauliafa said.
"We are trying to rebuild the competition and we are taking a step at a time. Our main target is Vulaca Championship, which will be held either next week or in November."
