Police squash Ants in semis

LABASA Police Blues have stamped their mark again as they sent the Nacula Ants packing 32-12 at yesterday's Macuata Rugby Union club semi-final playoffs.

Labasa Police skipper Viliame Gonevulavula scored the first unconverted try in the first five minutes of play.

Nacula Ants replied with a successful penalty to trail 3-53.

Two pushover tries from Police which were successfully converted took their lead to 19-3 as the teams went into the break.

Gonevulavula was in top form as he scored another unconverted try during the first few minutes of the second half — strengthening their lead to 24-3.

The side scored another try and was successful with penalty during the second half to hammer home their victory.

Nacula Ants managed to convert three successful penalties in second half.

Macuata Rugby Union Club games president Savenaca Ritova said the final will now feature Labasa Police Blues and the Bainivualiku Army next week.

Nacula Ants coach Taniela Veitata said that reaching the semi-finals was a success for them and he applauded the effort of his players.

"There are yet many issues that we need to touch up on come the next season," said Veitata.

The Banivualiku Army team had earlier won their match against Qawa.

Labasa Police coach Epeli Rikaiwai said that they were looking forward to he final next week.

"However there is still room for improvement and we do not take the Bainivualiku Army team lightly and we will take the match as it comes," said Rikaiwai.
