Ram wins stableford

SANJESHWAR Ram took out the A grade of the 18 holes individual stableford event at the Fiji Golf Club in Vatuwaqa yesterday.

The Suva golfer carded 41 points to emerge victorious from the 124 ardent golfers that turned up at the Vatuwaqa golf course.

In second place in the Basic Hygiene-sponsored tournament was Praneel Chandra on 40 while Abdul Hakim came in third with 39 points.

Five golfers finished the B-grade on 40 points, however, Ashok Nath was declared the winner after countback. Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee president Vidhya Lakhan was second and in third place was Vijay Madhavan.

The C-grade was won by Arun Kumar who finished the day on 43 points. Shane Smith and A. Willworth were second and third respectively.

In the ladies category, division one was won by Kelera Watling with a score of 38 and Debbie Gibson took out division two with 37 points.

The nearest to the pin award on the second hole went to Savenaca Narube and Ashok Goundar won the NTP on the 12th hole.

Fiji Golf Club spokesperson Kevin Maitava was impressed with the turnout and said the weather was great for golfing but the late afternoon thunderstorm affected the last few holes.

"It was a good turnout and excellent scores were recorded on the day," Maitava said.
