UNIVERSITY of the South Pacific (USP) has retained the Fiji University Sports Association (FUSA) inter tertiary games title.
The inter tertiary games, which finished yesterday, saw 26 sports being played over the past three days.
USP won 16 gold (sports), with basketball underway when this edition went to press, while rivals Fiji National University (FNU) managing five.
Gabrieli Qoro, the sports co-ordinator at USP, was thrilled with the win and attributed the success to continuous competition.
He said the USP teams were affiliated with various sporting bodies and were part of their weekly club games.
"This is the eight successive year of winning the inter tertiary title," Qoro, the former national netball coach said.
"Our rugby team is affiliated to Suva Rugby Union and plays in their club competition same as netball.
"We have our own volleyball league played under the USP Islanders Volleyball Association. So I think regular club games really improved the team performance."
Qoro, who is also an executive member of FUSA, was pleased with the competition level at the games.
He said the merging of FNU schools into two teams made the event more competitive.
