THE Lautoka soccer side will be looking to add more youngsters to the squad ahead of the Courts Inter District Championship after the Blues defeated Labasa 2-0 in the Fiji Sun/GP Batteries National Football League at Govind Park in Ba on Friday.
Central College student Leisari Qalica starred for the Shop N Save-sponsored Lautoka team scoring a goal in the fixture.
Qalica, the top scorer in the Tuckers Ice Cream Fiji Secondary Schools Championship, was on target for the Sugar City side in the 18th minute.
Lautoka Football Association president Shalendra Prasad said they would like to use Qalica in the IDC.
He said this would all depend on the Central College officials because Qalica would represent the school in the IDC also.
"We are looking at the possibility of adding other up and coming players to the IDC squad," Prasad said.
"Some of the senior players have opted to keep away from training. So their spots in the IDC squad are not guaranteed.
"We missed many chances against Labasa and they did as well. Labasa had a very good side but arrived late to the ground and seemed to be rushing things. They failed to settle and we took advantage.
"We will need to improve our attack. Valerio Nawatu tried to do things on his own. We cannot afford this to happen because soccer is a team sport."
The game started 40 minutes late after the Babasiga Lions failed to arrive on time.
Nawatu scored Lautoka's second goal in the 77th minute.
Today, Lautoka hosts Rewa at 3pm at Govind Park while Labasa will battle Suva at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori at the same time.
