Villagers want nurses

VILLAGERS of Nabasovi in Koro want nurses to be available on the island at all times.

This was made known to the Constitution Commission early this week during the commission's visit to Koro island.

While making his submissions to the Constitution Commission, Emosi Nacagavuto of Nabasovi village raised their concerns on the nurse issue which have long affected their lives.

He said the State should ensure that nurses were always available on the island. Mr Nacagavuto said the unavailability of nurses had been an ongoing problem on the island and their only hope was to have the new law solve these problems.

"Before a nurse goes on leave, they should ensure there is someone to relieve the people on the island," he said. He said they had come across a lot of problems when nurses were not present at health centres to attend to their sickness.

Mr Nacagavuto raised the issue of land to the commission, saying all land that belongs to the iTaukei should be reverted to the rightful landowners.

Traditional fishing grounds (qoliqoli), he said, should be reverted to the iTaukei and every other resources found in the sea and below such as oil.
