THE British High Commission in Fiji will not reveal the identity of the Fijian solider who gave birth, without an inkling she was pregnant, in Afghanistan on September 18.
When questioned about the details of the British soldier, British Army's support officer Major Jim Hall said at present, they would respect the wishes of the girl.
However, the United Kingdom's Ministry of Defence confirmed that on the day, a servicewoman serving in Afghanistan gave birth in the Camp Bastion Field Hospital to a baby boy.
The ministry said it was not military policy to allow service women to be deployed on operations if they were pregnant.
In this instance, the Ministry of Defence was unaware of her pregnancy.
