SABETO Roosters hoisted the Tagitupou Tanoa after beating Davuilevu Knights 22-6 in the final of the annual challenge at Albert Park in Suva yesterday.
The under-18 side remained unbeaten in the competition beating Lami Steelers 15-0 and Narere Tigers 11-0 in the round robin clashes.
Six teams were part of this tournament with New Zealand Fijians U17, the only overseas-based team.
The local teams that took part include Sabeto Roosters, Davuilevu Knights, Narere Tigers, Lami Steelers and Saru Dragons.
Interim Fiji National Rugby League administrator Tomi Finau was impressed with the level of competition showcased by the youngsters.
“The teams have been playing against themselves within their zones and this challenge gave them an opportunity to play against teams from other zones,” Finau said.
“Playing against the counterparts made the tournament more competitive.”
Finau also hailed the performance of the NZ Fijians although they lost all their matches.
He said the visitors played a more tactical game and were unable to withstand the physical play of the home sides.
