THE visit by one of the most senior government officials from the People’s Republic of China to Fiji is expected to take the two countries’ relations to new heights.
Wu Bangguo, who is the 10th Chairman and party secretary of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress is China’s chief legislator and is placed second in official rankings and party leaders, arrives in Fiji tonight.
Accompanied by Chinese ministers, Mr Wu will meet senior government ministers.
He is expected to sign several memorandum of understandings and agreements that will cement the strengthening of ties between the two countries, a statement said.
“These MOAs include the Agreement of Economic and Technical Co-operation and the Framework Agreement between the government of the Republic of Fiji and the Government of the People’s Republic of China on Provision of Concessional loan by China to Fiji,” the statement said.
“Another strategic agreement that will be signed is the Government Concessional Loan Project on Fiji Nabouwalu-Dreketi Road Upgrading Project.”
Mr Wu leaves Fiji on Sunday.
