Envoy plans to improve bilateral ties

THE French Embassy’s newly appointed deputy Head of Mission Jules Irrmann hopes to enhance bilateral ties with Fiji and the Pacific.

While hosting journalists to a morning tea at the Holiday Inn in Suva yesterday Mr Irrmann said he hoped to work closely with media organisations in Fiji in terms of learning what Fiji as a friendly country had to offer not only to tourists but to diplomats who served here.

Mr Irrmann recently arrived to take up his posting in Fiji from the French Embassy in Tokyo.

Mr Irrmann, who has been in Fiji for a month, said he would need to work hard and get familiar with Fiji and its surroundings.

With France having territories in the Pacific the newly appointed diplomat hopes to strengthen ties not only with Fiji but with all Pacific Island countries.

“I hope to continue with the developments and projects carried out by the embassy to Fiji and the region,” Mr Irrmann said.

He hoped to enhance outreach programs and find ways to assist the people in Fiji.

He said the media played an important role in how they could allow mutual understanding between the people of Fiji and their presence here.
