A FORTNIGHTLY soli of $20 per youth on the island of Yanuca has resulted in the construction of a new church building which is in its final stages of construction.
Despite limited income opportunities, the 15 youths worked hard on the Methodist Church building.
Led by Lui Bale, the youths started their soli early this year for the church that will be handed over to the villagers and the church leaders in December.
Mr Bale said the youths funded the building with a fortnightly soli of $20 each earned from fishing activities.
"Our old church building was destroyed more than 10 years ago by a cyclone and nothing has been done since to replace it," he said.
"We used the village hall instead after that and there were no plans at all to build the church for our villagers until these youths came up with the idea."
Mr Bale said the idea was taken on board by the youths and the project started with the guidance of church leaders.
"We are urging all villagers of Yanuca Island who live around the country and other parts of the world to be part of the opening ceremony of the church"
"It will also be a reunion for the big family of Yanuca Island as we have not had any such reunion."
