THE Fiji Police Force is urging families of the five escapees and members of the public for information that may lead to arrests.
Acting chief of operations Senior Superintendent Rusiate Tudravu said they looked forward to assistance with the provision of information.
SSP Tudravu warned it was a criminal offence to harbour any escaped prisoner. He said under the Crimes Decree, harbouring prisoners was prohibited and anyone caught would be handed a seven-year prison term.
"Those on the run know they are known criminals and their previous convictions show that," SSP Tudravu said.
He urged people not to get on the wrong side of the law and try and hide those prisoners.
SSP Tudravu said they believed the escapees were being assisted because they were hiding very well.
He called on members of the public to call 917 and 919, or contact the nearest police station, police or community post with any information that could assist police in its work. The five prisoners escaped from the Naboro medium correction facility on Monday night.
Last night, security in and around the Central Division was stepped up.
