Nair stars in golf win

YOUNG Michael Nair showed class and determination to clinch the Lautoka Golf Club (LGC) 18 holes stroke event over the weekend.

The 13-year-old played a one under par 68 to win the S K Davey Limited-sponsored overall nett title on Saturday.

Nair, who recorded a nett score of 68, played with a handicap of four and showed potential to represent the nation in the future.

In the other events, LGC vice-captain Suren Pillay maintained his steady form of late to take out the overall gross on 71.

Raymond Singh won the A-grade title after recording 68 followed by Vinesh Murthi on 69 and Gaffar Ali on 70.

Newly-promoted to the B-grade, Jeffery John clinched the title on 67, with Mohammed Ali settling for the second spot on 69 and Vijay Ram third on 70.

The C-grade competition was won by Doctor Vimal Murthi on 70 followed by Rohesh Kumar on 71 and junior golfer Asaeli Waqa on 72.

The nearest-to-the-pin prizes went to Suren Pillay and Gaffar Ali, with Michael Nair hitting the longest drive.

Tomasi Mawi and Ilaitia Bainivalu, the younger brother of Nadi soccer rep Poasa, jointly took out the beginner's category on 75.
