POLICE are investigating a Labasa businessman for allegedly receiving money in advance from motorists for repair works and in turn cheating them by exchanging new vehicles parts with old ones.

Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said they received reports from some motorists a fortnight ago. "The motorists lodged a complaint two weeks ago and our officers in Labasa are investigating the issue. So far, we have not seized any vehicle or arrested anyone as investigation continues," Ms Naisoro said.

A complainant, Rizwan Khan, told The Fiji Times he paid more than $2000 for the repair of a new vehicle.

He said new parts were replaced with old ones and the vehicle had not been returned.
