Mill yield improves

THE Fiji Sugar Corporation mill in Labasa has produced an extra 6000 tonnes of sugar within a week.

Last week the northern mill produced 28,000 tonnes of raw sugar and this week FSC executive chairman Abdul Khan confirmed they had produced a total of 34,000 tonnes of sugar.

The mill has produced a TCTS (tonnes per cane to tonnes per sugar) of 9:3 and this, Mr Khan said, was an improvement from previous years.

"We have already processed over 318,000 tonnes of sugarcane at Labasa Sugar Mill," he said.

The high production of sugar at the mill was recently celebrated with a thanksgiving church service which was held at the Labasa FSC compound.

Mr Khan had earlier said the crushing season around the country had been progressing well.

He said minor hiccups had been sorted and that stakeholders had worked well together.

"The cane supply to all mills has also been consistent so farmers and the whole industry is doing well this harvesting season," said Mr Khan.
