SECI Lagivola, the father of Iliesa Delana, said his son's achievement had inspired the nation.
Lagivola, a military officer, said winning the gold medal at the Paralympics was special.
He said Delana spent much of his time with his aunt Lice Bulusui in Yavala Village in Nadrala, Sigatoka.
"I'm really happy of what my son has achieved," Lagivola said. "It is something special. Especially for his mother's sister, Lice, who has been supporting him because most of the time while I have been away due to my work commitments."
Delana's mother passed away when he was young.
He became the first person from the South Pacific to win Paralympics gold.
