MATES Hockey Club of Lautoka will introduce an under-14 category during its annual tournament later this year.

The tournament will round off the competition in Lautoka.

Mates club official Martin Coffin said they had plans to make this year's tournament bigger and better.

He said more teams from Suva had shown interest for this year's tournament.

"Right now we have four men's and three women's teams in the Lautoka competition," Coffin said.

"The Fiji National University has joined us. The Blue Star and Mates men's and women's teams will be travelling to Suva this week for the Marist tournament.

"They are all excited to go to Suva and some players will be featuring in the tournament for the first time. The teams have been preparing well."

"This week there will be no games in Lautoka. At the end of our Lautoka tournaments we hope to stage our Mates tournament."

"The sponsors are coming through. When we get back from Suva we hope to unveil our sponsor."

"This year with the help of the Marist club of Suva we hope to boost the sport in the Sugar City. We had actually started the U14 competition which had lapsed for a while."

Mates will defend the men's title while Ozone will defend the women's title.
