A 43-YEAR-old man accused of causing the death of his one-year-old grandchild last weekend appeared at the Nadi Magistrates Court yesterday.
Samuela Ledua was charged with one count of murder.
According to police, the infant was found motionless at home at Barara Flat in Lomolomo last week.
Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said the child fell while leaning from a settee under the supervision of Mr Ledua. Ms Naisoro also revealed that the infant was allegedly put to sleep by the 43-year-old.
The child was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Ms Naisoro said the man told medical officials that the toddler had fallen from the settee.
She said a post mortem examination revealed the infant died from suffocation.
