Tuesday, September 18, 2012

A DECREE that will provide an inclusive environment for the elderly in Fiji is being drafted.

Called the National Council for Older Persons Decree, Ministry of Social Welfare, Women and Poverty Alleviation permanent secretary Govind Sami revealed this during a stakeholder workshop last week.

"The ministry in partnership with the NGOs, civil society organisations and with technical assistance from the United Nations Population Fund have worked on Fiji's National Policy on Ageing which was launched last year," Mr Sami said.

"The National Council for Older Persons Decree will be an umbrella grouping of all affiliated groups to provide the framework for the policy."
