POLICE are urging senior citizens to be responsible and good examples to young people.
This comes after five drums and six bottles of rice whiskey were allegedly seized from a 60-yearold woman's house at Naleba in Labasa.
Police have come out strongly against the production of homebrew or rice whiskey in the north.
Police warned that bootlegging was an offence and people would be prosecuted if caught producing the substance.
Police spokesman Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri said the woman was released after police questioned her over the allegation. He said police would lay charges when investigations were completed.
"People found brewing liquor without proper licences will be charged with manufacturing excisable goods and we will not be lenient with offenders," he said.
Insp Sokomuri said the offence the woman allegedly committed was quite cause for concern, especially when she was of an age that younger people looked up to in respect.
