SAINT John Lomary rugby club is the new champion of the Vunivalu Tanoa in the Serua Rugby Union.
The Galoa-based club defeated Veiyasana 26-12 in a double header whereby they qualified for the finals of the SRU club competition at Thomson Park in Navua last Saturday.
Veiyasana scooped the Tanoa after a default win over defending champions Navulivatu last week and lost grip of the title in their first defence.
Lomary will play neighbours Culanuku in the SRU finals.
Culanuku had a default win over Waidradra last Saturday.
Culanuku will be determined to bag some silverware this season after failing to win the Tanoa from Navulivatu earlier on.
SRU official Ilimo Vudiniabola said the double header added more spice to the level of competition.
"It was a tough game as both teams did not want to be eliminated from the competition. Veiyasana tried hard to defend their title but the challengers were determined to keep their hopes alive of winning the Tanoa and qualify for the finals," he said.
"The final will be an even contest. Both teams deserved to be in the final," Vudiniabola said.
Lomary will defend the Tanoa against Deuba in the next challenge.
