A TEAM of kite flyers from Taiwan is in Fiji to introduce kite flying.

Taiwan Trade Mission to Fiji director Chun Yu Chang said the purpose of bringing the team to Fiji was to teach Fijians the art of making and flying kites.

Mr Chang said the art of kite flying was a prime event associated with the Taiwanese.

He said in Fiji a lot of children stayed indoors and were linked to video games which gave rise to non-communicable diseases.

"By flying kites they will enjoy the goodness of nature and stay physically fit," Mr Chang said.

He said the team had brought various types of kites and demonstrated their kite flying skills at the Yat Sen School and Vodafone Arena over the weekend. "Kite flying is more natural, healthy and a good way to get the whole family involved," Mr Chang said.

The team will be visiting some schools to demonstrate the art of kite flying.

Mr Chang added the team of kite flyers from Taiwan to Fiji is part of the friendly relationship both countries share.
