SCOUTS program today is designed to develop young boys who have a high degree of self-reliance, integrity and sportsmanship to become good leaders and citizens.

These were the words of provincial administrator for Macuata, Josefa Rokonai at the Saint Augustine Public School scouts and girl guides campfire night last Friday.

He said scouts were also known throughout the world for performing acts of public good and heroism.

"So scouts should be helpful and understand more about their society, culture and heritage in order to gain the respect of others in society," Mr Rokonai said.

"Scouting programs also prepare a scout for personal progression which includes community service, leadership and explore areas of interest that should contribute to future development," he said.

For girl guides, Mr Rokonai said it was a platform to prepare girls to overcome challenges they encountered daily in life.

"To the young boys and girls, I urge you all to take a lot of interest in what your teachers have taught you because it will help you become a reliable person, good citizen and above all a person that will promote peace and unity in the community that you live in," he said.

The night event also featured entertainments, sale of food items and snacks.
