KAILA - Deepika Rani Kumar of Form 601 managed to grab the special certificate award in the New Zealand High Commission Essay Competition organised by the NZ High Commission this year. The Languages Department of the school was given the responsibility to prepare students for this competition. Two students were selected: one from Form 6 and one from Form 7. Under the guidance and assistance of the Head of Department Languages Mr. Manhar Kumar and the school principal, the students managed to get their essays ready by the due date. In the final results Nakasi High School has been placed in the top 20 schools in Fiji amongst the 73 schools that participated in the competition. This is a milestone achievement for the Languages department as well as for the school since it is the first time that the school has participated in this competition.
Deepika will receive a special certificate and $100 cash prize for this achievement. The award is scheduled for the 28th of July at the NZ High Commission residence. The topic for the essay was: What can your school culture offer to Fiji?
The Principal, HOD Languages and the participant have just joined the school this year and with their efforts they have brought glory to the school. The winning essay focused on core values of the school culture and how it contributes positively to Fiji.
