KAILA - Nakasi High School is a developing institution with a population of 280 students. It is an institution that believes in the holistic development of each child in its care.
Under the leadership of the school principal Mrs. Premila Kumar, this year the school has ventured into the field of rugby for the first time in its history.
Nakasi High School was established in the year 1993. Since then the school has progressed significantly.
The students after witnessing the teams playing and training for the U18 rugby league have become enthusiastic about their team and their school.
The students are really interested in this sport since it is a national sport. The school is encouraging and empowering children to engage in this type of worthwhile activity.
The players of the U18 team are playing in their clubs which made it possible for them to develop their interest. Team manageress Mrs. V. Batibebe is enthusiastic about it as well and is boosting the morale of the students likewise.
School Principal Mrs. Premila Kumar comes from a vast experience of fielding teams in the rugby sport from her previous school, Nausori High, and she believes that it is paramount to engage students into extra curricular activities of such nature which will enable to students to lead a successful life ahead.
The coach Mr. Waikabakaba trained the boys with the assistance from the Fiji National rugby league and is very thankful for their helping hand.
To add to the glory of Nakasi High rugby team, the team was blessed with a new set of jerseys from a parent Mr. and Mrs. Vilitati Ratu Coga, who are very supportive and interested in the school activities and for the welfare of the children. Kalivati, who is the son of Mr. and Mrs Coga, is also one of the players in the team.
The School Principal believes that the jerseys have really boosted the morale and enthusiasm of the players, the coach, the manageress and the school as a whole.
This is a signal that Nakasi High is living by its theme for the year: Achieving Excellence Through Team Work.
Kalivati, who is one of the players in the team, has created history for the school after being selected from the schoolś Under 17 rugby team to the National team.
It is after a lot of sacrifice, commitment and dedication that this dream of the school has come true. Behind the success of this Nakasi lad are many people.
First and foremost are his parents Mr & Mrs Ratu Coga who are his support right from the beginning.
Not only have the parents been a pillar of strength of their son but also for Nakasi High School where in numerous ways they have assisted the school in this rugby season.
They have been the sole sponsors of the rugby jersey for the school team and also provided food and refreshment to the players and athletes during the sports meet.
This is a proud moment for the parents that their son has been selected to play for the National team in Australia in the Term 2 school holidays.
