KAILA EDITORIAL - The society today is plagued with so many problems.
Issues pertaining to the needs and wants of people from all walks of life are arising at a rapid pace.
It is not uncommon for the public to hear about certain issues and be faced with a daunting task of trying to come up with ways to combat these problems.
In this way, people play a vital role in ensuring a brighter future for our nation as a whole.
The issue of animal cruelty is one matter that is making headlines for all the wrong reasons.
Witnessing some of these acts really makes a person question as to what the human mind is really made of.
How far will someone go to inflict pain on another living creature? Seeing these incidents would undoubtedly bring a lot of questions to mind, but answers seem to wander.
All over the world, animals are being treated like the scum of the universe and it is not uncommon to see the same problem here in Fiji.
They are skinned alive and left to die, for their fur.
To make bags and shoes and clothing are by far the most inhumane thing to happen to them. Animal cruelty is one of the issues that can be treated just as seriously as other issues that are faced by people in our society today.
It is rather easy for people to wonder, do these animals really have rights?
They are not people, what do they have to lose? It can be quite difficult, I gather, for people to actually believe that they themselves are animals themselves.
Homo sapiens, we are called.
We inhibit this planet; use Mother Earth's natural resources, so aren't we animals?
How would we feel if someone beat us up with sticks and throws stones at us, cut our hands off and pin us to a tree and rip our skin off?
Many people would flinch when this sort of thinking arises but it is a fact.
Logical thinking is one of the ways in which we can eradicate these problems.
The tag of dominant species that is bestowed upon us should be carefully taken into consideration.
To be dominant is to take care of those below us.
How far can humans go to ensure that they are dominant through all the wrong reasons? Maybe as a new day dawns, a new thinking will cross into the minds of us.
To protect and serve.
