Crushers win
THE under-18 Lautoka Crushers side stunned the Lami Steelers 24-5 in the Vodafone Cup finals yesterday. The Island Electric-sponsored side came from one-nil down to score five tries for the win. Coach Mesave Navugona thanked his young brigade for a job well done as they were the lone Lautoka side to win a title this year. Their under 16 side lost 9-12 to Nakasi Cowboys in the final while their under 14 side lost in the final to Nadi Raiders 0-34.
Shark bite
THE Sharks had the last bite yesterday when they beat Saru Dragon 20-8 in the reserve grade final of the Vodafone Cup. The Police side led 10-nil at halftime but allowed the KBL-sponsored side to mount a comeback. Apisai Derenalagi scored in the dying stages of the game to confirm the win for the lawmen. The Dragons lived up to their word and did not show any signs of fear when taking on the bigger and stronger Sharks. Winning coach Livai Toribau thanked the almighty God and said the win was dedicated to the whole of the Fiji Police Force. The club is promoting the protection of sharks in Fiji.
Overseas deal
QUEEN Victoria School under-18 lock forward Erevonu Kamikamica put pen to paper last week to confirm his signing to NRL (National Rugby League) club Parramatta Eels. Former Eels rep Wise Kativerata confirmed the signing to Times Sport yesterday during the Fiji National Rugby League Vodafone Cup finals. "I came here to see Kamikamica sign the three year contract to Paramatta," the former Fiji Bati said. "The deal will pay for his school fees and university fees in Australia when Kamikamica finishes school in November," he said. Kamikamica will join former national sevens rep Semi Radradra at Eels when he leaves in November. "He will be under the guidance of George of the Next Sports Generation, George is a pretty good guys, he has been looking after Semi and Kamikamica will have no problems with him (George) around," Kativerata said. He said five other locals signed contracts with West Tigers last week. Lote Tuqiri and Marika Koroibete are playing for the Tigers in the NRL.
