NATIONAL rep Vikrant Chandra holds a two stroke lead going into the final round of the Total Fiji sponsored Vatukoula Open at the Vatukoula Golf Club today.

The Suva lawyer carded one under par 72 to become the overnight leader.

Fellow national rep Olaf Allen Junior scored 74. Asish Kumar and Rajen Singh are tied in third spot with 76. James Krishna scored 78 while Rakesh Chand carded 79.

VGC captain David Rolfe said the opening finished late due to the slow start in the morning.

He said the hilly terrain took its toll on the players.

Rolfe said they would begin the final round early today in a bid to avoid the delay.

"We certainly had a very good day," Rolfe said. "The weather was hot and humid. This may have contributed to the high scores. We had a good turn out with 58 golfers. The sponsorship from Total Fiji is substantial. There are excellent prizes at stake."

"We will start the C graders at 7am. Then there will be a shotgun start for the B graders and A graders. We have extended the final hole by more than a hundred metres so it becomes a par 73 course."

"However I believe the National Golf Association of Fiji is looking at getting guys from Australia to get new rating for the courses here. To play at the VGC course you have to be very fit. We are looking at options to host a ladies event in the near future."

Earlier this year Vikrant bagged the Nadi Open and Fiji Amateur titles.
