THE Constitution Commission will visit the outer islands from Monday.

The commission office yesterday confirmed a team would leave for Koro and another for Kadavu on Monday.

Commission chairman Prof Yash Ghai said it was their responsibility to collate people's opinions and submit them to the President for submissions to the Constituency Assembly.

"We have to visit as many parts of the country as possible to hold public meetings and hearings," Prof Ghai said.

"Submissions may be written or oral, in principle all our hearings must be public," he added.

Prof Ghai said in order to encourage people to make submissions, a decree authorises the making of submissions in the language that people were most at home with.

In addition, the hearing-impaired were entitled to use sign language.

The commission has set the deadline for October 10.

However, Fijians would have another opportunity to make their views known on the draft constitution prepared by the commission.
